John Townsend, PhD is an American Christian self help author. Townsend co-authored ''Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life'' in 1992 which sold two million copies〔(''Christianity Today'', "Redeeming Conflict", May 1, 2004 )〕 and evolved into a five-part series. Townsend was born in 1952 and raised in North Carolina.〔 〕 He earned has a BA in psychology with honors from North Carolina State University, a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary (also with honors), and a PhD in clinical psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology, Biola University. Townsend and his family reside in Southern California. Townsend co-founded the Minirth-Meier Clinic West and served as its clinical co-director for ten years.〔 The clinic operated treatment centers in thirty-five cities in the western United States.〔 He founded the Townsend Institute for Leadership and Counseling at Huntington University in Indiana in 2015.〔(''Huntington University'', "Townsend Institute for Leadership and Counseling" )〕 Townsend co-hosts a nationally syndicated radio program, ''New Life Live''.
